Our founding principal spent his career as a New York attorney, watching peers in finance, medicine, law, and tech rent apartments for $5,000+ a month while the property owners on the other side of the check built generational wealth — propelled by depreciation, 1031 exchanges, and mortgage-interest deductions the renters themselves were funding.
When he relocated to Metro Detroit in 2023 to open a Michigan law practice, the price-to-rent math shocked him: a home that wouldn't buy a parking space in Tribeca was cash-flowing at 17% in Corktown. The gap wasn't temporary, and it wasn't small. It was structural. And it was the exact inverse of the predicament his peers faced 600 miles east.

Originally from New York City, Garam relocated to Metro-Detroit in 2023 to establish Choe & Mateo PLLC — a Michigan-based firm serving foreign companies with Metro-Detroit subsidiaries. As part of that transition, he began building his own real estate portfolio, taking advantage of affordability long out of reach in New York. That firsthand experience — plus years advising investors in high-stakes litigation — puts him in a rare position to guide out-of-state professionals into this market.
